Seen on Screen: Writing Short Films to Explore Identity with Kaede Miyamura
Saturday 6 December 2025 at 10:30AM
Bunjil Place Library
Event Description
You’ll chat about visual storytelling, various stages of script development, and use treatments, script breakdowns and other materials from Kaede’s latest short to discuss what worked, what didn’t work and what she learnt.
The session will include time to share processes you swear by, what you are working on (or hope to work on) and maybe even a mini writers’ room!
You will learn:
· Insight into short film writing (and short film production).
· Exercises/prompts/resources to flesh out an idea/craft a story for screen.
· To follow a short film from initial concept, script development and post-production.
· About the writers’ room and what goes on in there.
· How to approach the screen industry through the lens of an emerging POC creative.
Kaede Miyamura is an Australian Writers’ Guild Award nominated emerging filmmaker. Her films, Housekeepers and Kotoba, have been selected into local and international film festivals including the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, St Kilda Film Festival and FlickerFest.
