Event Description

So you have a novel idea, perhaps it’s already on screen. Novel Writing with Eugen Bacon is a chance to understand the essentials of writing a good story that lures its readers. Hone your craft with a prolific multi-award-winning author who writes across forms and genre. This workshop will pay attention to turning your idea into a novel, structuring your novel, shaping fascinating characters, finding voice, viewpoint, polish, and all that. Includes active prompts and exercises.
Eugen Bacon is an African Australian author. She’s a British Fantasy Award winner, a Victorian Premier’s Literary Award finalist, a Foreword Indies Award winner, and a twice World Fantasy Award finalist. Eugen was announced in the honor list of the Otherwise Fellowships for ‘doing exciting work in gender and speculative fiction’. Danged Black Thing made the Otherwise Award Honor List as a ‘sharp collection of Afro-Surrealist work’, and was a 2024 Philip K Dick Award nominee. Website: eugenbacon.com.

Notes & Requirements

Before the course:
· Think about your novel idea—if you haven’t started writing it yet.
· Consider a brief chapter-by-chapter synopsis, and draft a skeleton of it, no more than 750 words.
· Please bring along: Pens, notepads, smart phones or tablets for writing, as there will be exercises.
