Event Description

Creative non-fiction gathers a wide constellation of stylistic approaches under its net: personal essay, memoir, travel writing, nature writing, cultural criticism, biography, narrative journalism, and more.

You will explore how factual material may be crafted through narrative tension, sensory precision, rhythm, and voice, and discuss how poetic techniques can be used to enhance your writing.

Through reading, discussion, and writing exercises, you will learn to regard the world itself as an archive and writing as an exploratory response to contemporary life.

You will learn:

· Develop a sustained notebook practice as a tool for observation and discovery

· Understand creative non-fiction as a research-driven literary practice

· Critically read creative non-fiction pieces to learn to identity and understand research strategies being deployed.

· Apply multiple research methods, including reading, experiential or immersion, archival, and interview-based research to your own writing practice

Natalie Rose Dyer is a poet, essayist and academic. She currently teaches into the Creative Writing Program at The University of Melbourne where she is Honorary Research Fellow.
