Event Description

Regardless of genre, style or level of experience, all writers work with words and sentences as the basic units of prose. This course will re-focus your writing on the level of the sentence, providing practical ways to improve your prose in both drafting and editing stages. The course involves a combination of tuition, examples, and writing exercises to empower you to elevate your sentences from ordinary to sublime.

Learning outcomes:
​To better understand what makes a good (or bad) sentence, across a range of contexts.
​Practical tips and exercises to improve your sentences, which you can continue to apply long after the course has finished.
​To become a better reader, writer, and editor on the sentence level.
​Ways to improve your writing on the sentence level in both the drafting and editing stages.​

​​Emily Bitto is an award-winning writer of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Her debut novel, The Strays, won the 2015 Stella Prize. Her second novel, Wild Abandon, was the winner of the 2022 Margaret and Colin Roderick Literary Award. Emily has taught creative writing for over a decade and is currently a tutor at the Faber Writing Academy.
